Clive and Elsa on Watch Splice Online are a pair of brilliant scientists whose cutting-edge experiments in genetic engineering make them superstars in their field. As devoted to their careers as they are to one another, they start conducting unauthorized experiments with new animal species that show great promise. Drunk with their god-like powers, they introduce human DNA into one of their creations, producing a creature that is greater than the sum of its parts: a rapidly developing animal/human hybrid that may be a step up on the evolutionary ladder. While this female creature inspires maternal feelings in Elsa, she evokes something far-from-paternal in Clive, something that poses a threat to them all. Then, when this seemingly perfect organism makes a final, shocking metamorphosis, it is mankind itself that is threatened.

Watch Splice Free is a 2009 science-fiction horror film directed by Vincenzo Natali and starring Adrien Brody and Sarah Polley, who portray two young scientists and lovers who begin involving human DNA in their splicing of animal genes.
Superstar genetic engineers Clive Nicoli (Adrien Brody) and Elsa Kast (Sarah Polley) on Watch Splice achieve fame by successfully splicing together the DNA of different animals, to create incredible new hybrid animals. Now they want to use human DNA in a hybrid that could revolutionize science and medicine. But when the pharmaceutical company that funds their research forbids it, Clive and Elsa secretly conduct their own experiments in the pursuit of even greater scientific discovery. They secretly blend human DNA with their creations, ignoring their society’s ethical and legal boundaries.
The scientists name their creature Dren (nerd spelled backward), and Dren exceeds their wildest dreams; she begins to grow and learn at an accelerated rate. As their lab becomes exceedingly crowded, and the risk of Dren being discovered increases, they move Dren to Elsa’s dead mother’s farm. There Clive discovers that Elsa used her own DNA to create the creature, which by now has become amphibious, winged and omnivorous with a toxic sting which later is used as a sexual organ when Dren rapes Elsa. The two must come to terms with their decision as their creature quickly develops into a deadly, winged humanoid monster.
